Large Drug Bust in Chicago, IL

14 people of operating a large-scale drug network that funneled cocaine and heroin from Chicago to Cleveland's West Side.

An indictment outlining the ring was unsealed in U.S. District Court in Cleveland. Two others have been charged in related charges.

This group is accused of bringing a variety of drugs, including heroin, cocaine and marijuana, from Chicago to the West Side of Cleveland. These arrests should send a message to those who seek to profit from the drug trade.

 

Robert Corso, the special agent in charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Cleveland, said the arrests "cut off a pipeline that fed the streets of Cleveland."

The indictment alleges the ring worked like this: Richard Price Jr., 23, of Cleveland obtained cocaine, heroin and marijuana from Alexander Abreu, 42, also of Cleveland. The charges say Abreu obtained his supply from dealers in Chicago and elsewhere.

Price then distributed the drugs to street-level dealers in Cleveland, detailing the amount of money that they should sell the drugs for and how they should dole it out, according to the charges. The street-level peddlers, along with Price and Abreu, were charged with conspiracy and drug charges.

Investigators used wiretaps to track Price's movements from May through September.

In the calls, the group's members referred to marijuana as "greenery" and cocaine as "white" and heroin as "food." When a member obtained a stash of fake heroin, one of the group's members called it "bad doggie food." In conversations, "loud" referred to high-grade marijuana, while "reggie" meant a lower-grade quality.
